JOEL HUNTER PERRY
CLASS OF 1981

And He said to me, “It is done!” (Revelation 21:6). And so it is with our friend and brother and uncle and
father and husband, Joel Hunter Perry, on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009. His valiant three year battle with cancer
has delivered him victoriously into his Father’s house; a mansion prepared with many rooms of antiques
crafted by the Ancient of Days and Christmas décor from and for all of eternity. Each space is overflowing
with friends and family and conversation and Joel is not missing a word as he welcomes and is welcomed.
“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river.” (Jeremiah 17:8).
Joel’s legacy is evident by the depth and breadth of his influence throughout his life. He was born Dec. 23,
1962 in Gainesville where he spent his youth before moving to LaJunta, Colo. where he graduated from high
school and began college. A transfer relocated him to Tyler where he completed his studies through
Letorneau. He met and married the love and song of his life, Kay Anderson on Aug. 2, 1986. They
celebrated God’s design of family with four beautiful reflections of their love, Jordyn, 19; Hunter, 15;
Madison, 13 and Caleb, eight.

For 16 years Joel worked in management for Southwestern Bell and for the last three years was director of
Trinity Mother Frances’ Physician One Call. To know Joel was to love him and no one that encountered him
was immune to his infectious attitude and love for his God and for the life he had been given however brief.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Perry in Feb. of 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife,
Ellen Kay; daughters, Jordyn Elizabeth and Madison Claire; sons, Hunter Wrenn and Caleb Joel. Also
brothers, Joshua Perry and wife, Christi of Denton and Jeff Perry and wife, Pam of Gainesville, as well as a
multitude of extended family and friends.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Services to
be held at Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. today, with Dr. Bob Mayfield officiating. Burial
will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler. Funeral services are being arranged by Burks Walker Tippit
Funeral Home in Tyler.
Even now he is missed
