CLASS OF 1950

Wade Orsburn, 77, a native and lifelong resident of Gainesville, went peacefully to his heavenly
home on Jan. 27, 2010 of complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was born to Alvin and
Jesse Whitt Orsburn on Dec. 14, 1932. He was married on June 17, 1955 to Ramona Steen
Orsburn, who survives him. He was the proud father of Derrin "Keith" Orsburn of Denton and
devoted grandfather "Poppie" of Kade James Orsburn. They survive him, along with Keith’s wife,
Jamie and her daughters whom Wade also loved and cherished: Rachel and husband, Mark
Cannon of Henrietta and Maegan and Carlyn Anderson of Denton.
Wade was one of six siblings who were born and reared on a small farm in eastern Cooke County,
attending Oak Valley School. Wade graduated from Gainesville High School and Cooke County
Junior College. He was regarded as the patriarch of his generation of the pioneer Cooke County
family. His family greatly loved and respected him for his honesty, loyalty, strong sense of
fairness and humor. All of his brothers and sisters survive him: Norma Mozingo of Gainesville,
Hattie Pawless and husband Mugg of Gainesville, Don Orsburn and wife Reece of Gainesville,
Emma Moore of Callisburg and Charles Orsburn and wife Ellen of Oak Point, along with many
nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and one child, Dwight David
Orsburn.
He was an independent oil operator and manager of oil properties for R. Brannon & Sons, and
after gaining experience at Texaco, Inc. and Felderhoff Brothers Drilling Co., Wade was one of
the “old guard” whose handshake was as good as an ironclad, written contract. Wade was
actively involved in many facets of the community. In his early years he was a member of the
Red Gordon Band, which raised money for polio research. He officiated for the National
Association of Sports Officials, through which he met his beloved Mona, who was playing
basketball at Collinsville High School. He was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church
of Gainesville, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the building committee that
constructed the Youth Activity Center. He was a member of the Lions Club and the board of
directors of Camp Sweeney, the Gainesville Boy’s Club, the Gainesville Housing Authority, and the
Cooke County Draft Board.

The family was present for visitation at Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home Friday evening from
7 to 8 p.m. The celebration of his life was Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist
Church of Gainesville, and was conducted by the Rev. Hubert Wright. There was be an additional
visitation in the activities building of the First Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Bill Cox, Garry Felderhoff, James Hermann, Tommy James, Johnny Leftwich,
Lewis Moore, Randy Orsburn and Bud Pawless. The Deacon Body of the First Baptist Church will
be honorary pallbearers. Greeters are grandson-in-law, Mark Cannon and nephews, Brent
Mozingo, Trent Mozingo and Vince Pawless. Interment will take place at the Collinsville Cemetery
following the celebration. Services are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral
Home.

Worth.  Zack was born on December 29, 1986, in Sherman to Gary and Kim Otto. He
attended school at St. Mary’s School and Gainesville ISD and graduated in 2005 from
Gainesville High School. Zack enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his Nanny,
and friends. He loved riding motorcycles and four-wheelers with his Dad. He also loved
playing with is little brother and nephew. He will be greatly missed by his family and
friends. Zack was employed by Petroflex in Gainesville. He was a member of St. Mary’s
Church where he was baptized, received his First Holy Communion and was Confirmed.

Survivors include his parents, Gary and Kim Otto of Lindsay, Little Brother, Chase Otto of
Lindsay, Sister and Nephew Laci Otto and Kobe of Lewisville, Grandmothers Mary Otto
“Nanny” of Gainesville, and Marge Clement “MeMaw” of Lindsay. Godparents Jimmy and
Sandra Lehnertz of Gainesville, Uncle and Friend Kent Clement of Gainesville, Best Friend
and Cousin Preston Lehnertz of Denton and several aunts, uncles, cousins, great-cousins
and friends.

Funeral services for Virginia Bryant, 79, of Gainesville, are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1,2012, at Geo. J.
Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Cathey officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview
Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son
Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bryant was born July 15, 1933, in Tioga.  She went home to be with her Lord on Oct. 29, 2012, in
Wichita Falls.

Mrs. Bryant graduated from high school in Gainesville and married Glenn Bryant in 1950.  
She spent most of her adult life in northern New Mexico where she had a career as a banker.  Mr. and Mrs.
Bryant retired to Gainesville in 1992.  In her free time Mrs. Bryant thoroughly enjoyed reading and
crocheting.  She also enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at NTMC.

Survivors include: son, Tim Bryant and wife Lynn; son, Terry Bryant and wife Pat; daughter, Tresa Taylor
and husband Butch; son, Travis Bryant and wife Cathy; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.  
Survivors also include numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by husband, Glenn Bryant; father, Eli Stewart Norris; mother, Florena
Sellers Norris; brothers, Mansel and Johnny Norris; and sisters, Rena Norris Hutton and Barbara Norris
Carter.

Pallbearers will be Matt Bryant, Josh Bryant, Jase Bryant, Glenn Taylor, Tim Lawrence and Sam Houston.

working in the food service dept. Lavera was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville ,.Tx. She
loved to cook and during the Holidays she enjoyed making each one their own special dish, but her favorite
hobby was spoiling her grandchildren.

Lavera is survived by her sons and daughters in law Jerry and Barbie Baugh of Wylie, Tx and Robbie and
Diane Baugh of Gainesville Tx, grandchildren and spouses Kris and Mickey Whitaker of Wylie, Tx, Sam and

Rebecca was born on November 23, 1949 in Gainesville to James Edward and Sylvia Sydney Brown
Nicholson. She passed away on July 22, 2013 in Denton.

Rebecca is survived by daughter Dedra Hendricks of Savannah; daughter Tamera Nicholson of
Gainesville; daughter Kimberly Randle of Tulsa, OK; son Marcus Thomas of Gainesville; twelve
grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Mauri Sadler of Dallas;
aunt Velma Brown of Gainesville; aunt Cherry Nicholson of San Diego, CA; aunt Eva Mae Nicholson of San

Graveside services for Tommie "Pete" Lloyd Norwood II, 31, of Gainesville, were held on Saturday, June 22,
2013, at 2 p.m. at the Valley View Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Black officiating.

Pete was born on Jan. 23, 1982, in Gainesville to Tommie Lloyd and Kathy Gale Odell Norwood.

He passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, in Plano after sustaining injuries in a vehicle accident.

Pete is survived by his son, Casper Norwood of Gainesville; son, Blake Wood of Gainesville; father, Tommie
Norwood of Gainesville; sister, Deanna Simmons and her husband Charley of Gainesville; sister, Sherry
Gilbert and her husband Chad of Electra; sister, Lori Norwood of Denton; sister, Elizabeth Diane Norwood of

Mr. Orsburn died March 15, 2006 at Denton Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born December 26, 1948 in Sylacauga, Alab., to Paul and Lucille (Hawkins) Orsburn. He was a member
of the First Baptist Church and an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Gainesville.

His survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Orsburn and Richard Boldly of London, Engl., and
Stacie Orsburn of Lewisville; sisters, Wanda Knowles of Dubois, Wyo., and Frances Perkins of Oologah, Okla.;
niece, Brenda and Randy Jenkins of Gainesville; several cousins; several nieces and nephews.  He was
preceded in death by his parents.

Ken was born on September 6, 1948 in Gainesville to A.H. "Pete" and Helen (Pittner) Odell. He passed
away on December 24, 2015 in Gainesville.

Ken loved baseball, and he pitched many no hitters in the Pee-Wee league. He also loved bowling, dirt
bikes, drag racing, and antique cars, especially the tri-5's. He retired from Peterbilt on January 3, 2014
after 32 years of service.

Ken married Donna Schroeder on October 27, 1984.

He is survived by his wife Donna Odell of Gainesville; daughter Kendyl Arensman and her husband Joe of
Sanger; daughter Heather Endres and her husband Kyle of Krum; grandson Andrew Arensman; and
granddaughter Harper Endres.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tommie passed away on February 26, 2016 at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born on February 16,
1945 in Texon, Texas to Lloyd "Pete" and Bernice Pauline (Harris) Norwood. He was a Vietnam Conflict
Veteran with the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours of duty. He was an electrician and welder by trade.

Survivors include 2 sons, Robbie Gober (Chris) of Texarkana and Michael Norwood of Gainesville; 2
daughters, Deonna Simmons (Charlie) of Davis, Oklahoma and Sherry Gilbert (Chad) of Electra; 16
grandchildren; and a brother, Ryan Norwood (Debra) of Valley View. He was preceded in death by his
parents; 2 sons, James Gober and Tommie Pete Norwood; and a sister, Mary Beth DePriest.

Joseph Y. Nichols died peacefully on December 3, 2016 in Gainesville, TX
at the age of 79.

Joe was born on October 28, 1937 in Gainesville to Joe and Helen (Albers)
Nichols. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1955. He married
Sandy McDaniel, the love of his life, in 1960. Joe spent most of his career
in law enforcement. His first job was working with the Texas Highway
Patrol. In 1966 he began his career with Navy Criminal Investigations
Services (NCIS). During his career, the family was stationed across the
US and in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He retired from NCIS in 1989. After
retirement from NCIS, Joe spent time as the Cooke County Sheriff, a
rancher, and with Texas Baptist Men's ministries.

Joe loved to work and keep busy. He always had a list of his next
projects. He was dedicated to his family, friends and projects. His love
was for Sandy and his faith. He was an active and dedicated member of
the Baptist church and, for many years, volunteered building churches
with the Texas Baptist Men's group.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy Nichols of Gainesville; children: Grant
M. Nichols of New York and Nancy Evans of La Marque; granddaughter
Stephanie Evans of La Marque; a brother; two sisters; and many nieces,
nephews, and other family members.

Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law Steve
Evans.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at
Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for
2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the same location. Dr. Eddie
Chennault will officiate the ceremony. Interment will follow at Oak Grove
Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joe's life.

Gainesville resident, Richard Geer Norris, died Wednesday, October 5,
2016 at Denton Presbyterian Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1944 in
Gainesville, Texas, to R. C. & Verba Norris. He married Sharon White
McLerran, November 25, 2000 in Gainesville He was retired from the City
of Gainesville. He worked in the Water Department for 30 years. He was
a Methodist.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10th at Meador
Funeral Home Chapel with Roslyn Eugster officiating. Interment will
follow in Fairview Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 2:00 to 4:00
p.m. on Sunday, October 9th at Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Norris of Gainesville; 1 son, Richard

Gainesville resident Robert Cusac Nutter, 74, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Renaissance
Care Center. He was born July 14, 1942, in Bridgeport, Conn., to Leroy Dermott Nutter Sr. and Joan (Tilbury)
Nutter. Robert married Mary Sue Freeman on May 21, 1992, in Fort Worth. He served in the U.S. Air Force
as Airman First Class Chaplain Service Specialist from 1963-1967 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville and a teacher of computer-aided drafting and
woodworking at Gainesville High School, North Central Texas College and Grayson County College. He was a
loving husband, father and grandfather.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with
Rev. John Hare officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Saturday, October 29, at Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville.

Gainesville resident Hattie Lou Pawless passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Pecan Tree Health
and Rehab Center at the age of eighty-five. She was born March 18, 1931 to Alvin L. and Jessie (Whitt)
Orsburn in Gainesville. Hattie was the Salutatorian of her 1947 Gainesville High School graduating class. She
had been employed as a bookkeeper and office manager. Hattie was a member of Tabernacle Baptist
Church where she taught Sunday School, played the organ and piano and served as the church treasurer.

Graveside services are set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29th at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jerry
Huggins, Hospice Chaplain officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. A visitation will be held from 9:30
to 10:45 a.m. Thursday before service time at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville.
